I pray for those people who have been injured in Haiti. the earthquake in Haiti is one of the word disasters this year. I just hope that they would be able to recover soon.

have you read Tracy Kidder's Mountains Beyond Mountains? I just finished it and thought it was an incredible piece of work. There's a section comparing the public heath rates of Haiti and Cuba that I thought was especially relevant--we embargoed Cuba and they have one of the best public health systems in the Western Hemisphere, we meddled in Haiti and they're a mess.

I think you're totally correct. Haiti needed our assistance a week ago, they just hadn't had a natural disaster yet. And like Katrina, we'll spotlight the country for a moment, then another catastrophe will hit another part of the globe...and our eyes will turn elsewhere. To be so close to the opportunities afforded children in the United States and live in such a daily nightmare as a child born just a bit too far south.
