Faces and Names

I'm good at remembering names, and a bit less good (but not bad) at remembering faces. The problem I have is connecting these two disparate pieces. Recently I realized that this was the fundamental problem of semiotics: the face is the referent (the thing being referred to), the name is the symbol, and the connection between the two is the reference.
